A soliloquy is usually a long, dramatic speech in which the author intends to give the audience the illusion of the actors thoughts and reflections. The character is alone on stage, telling their inner thoughts by speaking aloud.

An aside consists of a character turning the other way from another character on stage to address the the audience privately. Other characters are not aware of what is being said.
