Answer:

A magnet have different functions. It can attract items that are magnetic for example iron and steel and other magnet bars which have a different pole facing them. It can repel when another magnet is facing the same pole as them. For example, south pole of a magnet is able to attract a north pole of a magnet. North pole of a magnet will repel a north pole of a magnet.
