Horrible, the conditions were very poor but people were desperate to hold on to these jobs. They barely got paid enough to make end's meet and was much less

Working conditions at this time were horrible. They had low wages, long work hours, etc. Not only that but workers were frequently killed, injured, or sickened by their workplace. Low sanitary and dangerous working conditions were just a few struggles workers faces.
